SONALI MISHRA : LONDON WORKSHOP
27th - 29th April 2018
Sonali Mishra (Lara) will be joining us in London this spring for a weekend workshop, and we would love for you to join us.
Known and loved for her fluidity in dance, depth of emotion and dedication to sharing the essence of Odissi, this is a rare opportunity to join Sonali for an intermediate/advanced level workshop, and study a piece from the classical repertoire in depth.
ABOUT SONALI MISHRA:
Sonali is an Odissi dancer, writer, and researcher, born and raised in the United States and currently based in Odisha, India.
Initiated into Odissi dance in her early teens by Smt. Chitralekha, Smt. Ellora, and Sri Devraj Patnaik in Toronto, since 1995 she has been travelling regularly to Odisha, India for further study and refinement.
Sonali received her initial training in India under Gurus Sri Bichitrananda Swain and Sri Ramesh Chandra Jena, with additional guidance from Smt. Aruna Mohanty and Smt. Nandita Behera under the direct supervision of Guru Sri Gangadhar Pradhan. Her desire to further understand the intricacies of the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra gharana of Odissi, led her to Srjan, the institute founded by this legendary Guru, where she has been undergoing rigorous training under Guru Smt. Sujata Mohapatra, under the guidance of Guru Sri Ratikant Mohapatra. Sonali is receiving additional training with Guru Smt. Kumkum Lal.
An international performing artiste, she has performed as a soloist in numerous venues and festivals in the US, Canada, Germany, India, Spain, Portugal, Austria, the UK, and Malaysia, as well as conducting workshops and lecture demonstrations in India, the United States, Germany, the UK, Spain and Portugal.
Sonali’s commitment to artistic excellence, combined with her dedication to cultivating intellectual discourse in the field of Odissi, have carved a unique niche for her in the dance field. Her rare combination of Eastern sensibilities and Western education, have allowed her to successfully cross social and cultural barriers to make Odissi more accessible globally. Sonali can easily be considered a “Global Ambassador” of Odissi dance.
